Pestana Hotel lobby

Manhattan, NY The Gene Kaufman Architect (GKA)-designed Pestana Hotel located at 23 East 39th St. is now open. The 27-story hotel from Portugal-based Pestana Hotels–dubbed Pestana NY East–is the second project in the city from the Pestana Group.

Located in Midtown East between Madison and Fifth Aves., the 40,000 s/f structure contains 96 hotel rooms, gym for guests, a bar and an outdoor patio. Rooms feature bespoke interiors and large windows, some with balconies and views of the Empire State Building. Design features include Portuguese-made light fixtures and headboards and photography by Cátia Castel-Branco. All rooms have full-length rotating mirrors with hangers attached, TVs, USB sockets and high-speed wifi.

“With the introduction of new hoteliers to New York City, the design of amenities and room configurations continues to evolve in new and exciting ways that ultimately gives travelers more choices in where they stay,” said Kaufman.

The lobby has a fireplace and seating area, ideal for both working and socializing, as well as an inviting dining area open throughout the day, serving tea, coffee and complimentary breakfast items. An outdoor courtyard features a mural design by Portuguese artist Manuel Cargaleirom.

The hotel is located within walking distance of many tourist attractions, including the New York Public Library, Bryant Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Empire State and Chrysler buildings.
