The three-year program will be of interest to builders, developers, contractors, property managers and the companies that manufacture building materials and equipment. And in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the program will give added consideration to projects that can make a building more resilient to power outages, such as heating and cooling equipment that can self power from other energy sources (renewables and natural gas), or equipment that can shed power load during times of high demand.
The program focuses on a variety of areas, including improving the energy efficiency and performance of construction materials and the use of them, the development of innovative heating and cooling equipment, development and adoption of LED lighting, use of demand response and smart building technology and other areas.
