NYSCAR president's message: Upcoming NYSCAR events

By: Joseph Rowley, Jr. NYSCAR will hold their Annual meeting on Sunday, September 11 at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona. We are pleased to have Vijay Yadlapati, Commercial Associate Policy Representative (Government Affairs Department) with the National Association of Realtors who will give a legislative update. Also this fall, there are several courses planned and we hope you are able to take advantage of these offerings (watch www.nyscar.org for details). NYSCAR in cooperation with the Rochester Area Chapter of NYSCAR will present: * September 14, Rochester (3 hours NYS continuing education credit): "Comprehensive Due Diligence is Key in Real Estate." The course will be instructed by Tim Conley, CCIM, director, Cresa Partners in Albany. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of what is important in creating successful "real estate transactions." Topics to be covered will be the due diligence that is impacted by "municipalities" regarding their regulations, services and planning requirements for Commercial Real Estate Development and Renovations. Also covered in this course, will be the critical elements surrounding the purchasing of real estate, including the property inspection in regards to the physical characteristics as well as the financial aspects of the property. The final area of importance highlighted in this course, will be the financial analysis considered necessary for the completion of a successful transaction. * October 13, Holiday Inn, Amherst, NYSCAR and the WNY Chapter of the Appraisal Institute in cooperation with the WNY Chapter of NYSCAR will present: "Green Building Update, LEED Cert Architecture, Adaptive Re-Use of Historic Structures and Commercial Leasing." The day will feature four separate segments.The instructors include: Patrick Quigley, Esq., Commercial Leasing for Non-Lawyers and Green Buildings and Green Leasing; Joseph Rowley, Jr., Commercial Real Estate 2011 Update and 2012 Forecast; Clinton Brown, Green Building Architecture, Standards & Acceptance in the Market: The Origins of Green Building Architecture and the Future of Historic Buildings and Communities; and Giona Paolercio and Aliesa Adelman, Targeting LEED and the Adaptive Re-use of Historic Buildings - Sustainable Practices in New Construction and Major Renovations. The course will be submitted to NYS DOS for 7 hours of real estate and appraiser c.e. credit. * October 27, Rochester: "Selling Investment and Commercial Properties: Issues, Money and Laws" instructed by Edward Smith, Jr., ITI. This course will offer 7.5 hours of NYS continuing education credit. This course also satisfies the NYS requirement for 3 hours of Fair Housing and/or Discrimination training for license renewals. * October 27-28, Albany Ramada: NYSCAR in cooperation with the Greater Capital Chapter of NYSCAR will present the annual education/marketing event. On the 27th, Chuck Sutherland, SEC will present "Creative Real Estate Finance...Creating Alternatives When the Banks Aren't Lending" followed by a Marketing-Networking Session.
