Mortgage Bankers Association of New York Scholarship Foundation names 2020 scholarship recipients

New York, NY The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) of New York Scholarship Foundation has awarded five scholarships for the fall 2020 semester. 

The 2020 MBA of NY Scholarship Foundation Recipients are:

  • Jinyu (Michelle) Chen - Baruch College; 
  • Jasmine Gurreri - Fordham University; 
  • Matthew Hiller - New York University;
  • Daanish Lalani, Columbia University; and
  • Paris Sithi, Baruch College.

This year marks the foundation’s third year of awarding scholarships to students pursuing a real estate degree in a NY-based school. Richard Carr, the foundation’s chairman, has dedicated hours to reinvigorating the foundation that has been dormant since the financial crisis. “I’m honored that the MBA of NY board has shown the confidence in me to lead such an important initiative. It’s been a collective effort of our dedicated team and the support of our benefactors that has revitalized the foundation.”

Carr said, “Doubling the number of applicants in each year over the past three years speaks to the increased visibility and impact our team has had in working with emerging industry leaders and young professionals. I’m extremely proud that the students earning scholarships this year represent the diversity of our industry.”

“My sincerest congratulations and utmost respect are sent to this year’s Scholarship Recipients. Our network of student members and proteges all work tirelessly toward their goals and inspire me every day. I wish them all the best, look forward to seeing them prosper and bring their own creativity to the future of our industry,” said Jenn Smaragdas of C3S CoRE Consulting and MBA of NY Scholarship Foundation secretary.

“As an adjunct real estate professor at Columbia University, New York University, and Fordham University, I’m so happy to see scholarship recipients from all these schools and commend the Scholarship Foundation’s work to support the future leaders in the real estate industry. Coming from an immigrant family and a beneficiary of scholarships and mentorship as a student and throughout my career, it’s a privilege to be a board member of the MBA of NY Scholarship Foundation. Congratulations to all the scholarship recipients. We wish you the best in your studies and continued success!” said Johnny Din of Cycamore Capital and Scholarship Foundation board member. 

Michael Schneider, of Hunt Real Estate Capital and fellow board member also expressed his commendation for the 2020 scholarship winners, “Congratulations to our scholarship winners. Your desire to apply your real estate education to make the world better for others is inspiring and exemplifies the mission of our foundation.”
