Meltzer and Stuart join EDI International team

March 15, 2016 - Design / Build

New York, NY With EDI International preparing for a major expansion in the NYC market, the architectural firm has added two design veterans, according to Victor Mirontschuk, EDI’s founder and chairman.

Marvin Meltzer brings 40 years of award-winning experience in both luxury and affordable multifamily development, special-needs, and commercial-to-residential design in and around the city. His list of awards includes the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award from The New York Society of Architects.

EDI also has recruited Meltzer’s long-time associate, David Stuart, as senior project manager. Stuart brings 15 years’ experience in the design and realization of multifamily and mixed-use projects, and has directed design teams for 20 projects in New York and the surrounding metro area.

“As we prepare for our growth in New York, where we’ve had an office for 25 years, Marvin’s and David’s special experience in this tough market now gives us an important competitive advantage,” said Mirontschuk. “They are both superb architects, and I am delighted to add them to the EDI team.”

For example, Mirontschuk cited Meltzer’s expertise in zoning analysis, schematic design and programming, enabling clients to maximize the development potential of a site.

His prior firm, Meltzer/Mandl Architects, was noted for designing signature projects in “undiscovered” neighborhoods – bringing a new definition to these marginal neighborhoods.  The firm also excelled at designing projects on irregular sites and/or sites with challenging topography.

In making the announcement, Mirontschuk also stressed David Stuart’s detailed understanding of New York City zoning and the Department of Buildings approvals process, his extensive experience working with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), and in bringing high quality design to numerous affordable housing projects. Mr. Stuart has contributed to the design of a full range of projects, including institutional and cultural buildings, urban mixed-use developments, residential projects, and large-scale historic renovations.

“As important as their experience,” Mr. Mirontschuk said, “is Marvin’s and David’s understanding of the importance of timely and efficient performance, and for their prolific portfolio of built projects.”

Established in 1976 and with offices in New York City, Houston, and the San Francisco Bay Area, EDI is a global architecture, interior design and planning firm specializing in commercial, leisure, hospitality, residential, planning, and landscape projects. The firm’s commitment to unconventional design, technology, and quality has been recognized by nearly 150 industry awards for excellence in design and planning.
