New York, NY A new Veterinary Eye Center of Manhattan (VEC) specialty hospital has opened in Manhattan’s Midtown West neighborhood. The new facility is the city’s first veterinary ophthalmology center.
McAlpine Contracting served as the general contractor for the renovation and interior fit-out of the 2,500 s/f street-level clinic located at 357 West 52nd St. Crown Architecture and Consulting designed the project. Red Bear Tech Services, a veterinary clinic operations consultant, developed the procedure room layouts and specified treatment and support equipment. The team also included mechanical engineer Yorkos Engineering and structural engineer Serman Engineering. Nightingale Veterinary Partners manages business operations of the new clinic.
“The Veterinary Eye Center provides specialized ophthalmology services to the pets of Manhattan and the greater New York area. We are excited about becoming a member of the Midtown community,” said VEC’s medical director, Alex LoPinto, DVM, DACVO.
McAlpine’s executive vice president John Nolan said, “The new clinic features elegant finishes, specialized medical systems and equipment, and healthcare-type interior materials in treatment and examination areas. The interiors include a 1,600 s/f ground floor and 840 s/f partial basement.”
“A custom reception desk with Equitone fiber cement cladding and a white quartz countertop faces the entrance. Opposite the desk is a waiting area with a built-in curved polyurethane leather-upholstered banquette and recessed display shelving. A cluster of three pendant LED fixtures highlights the waiting area. The 1,300 s/f exam room and surgery suite areas are arranged along a double loaded corridor behind the lobby,” said McAlpine’s director of construction administration Adrian Vasile.
