Sligo, Ireland The Loretta Mc Gowan Foundation, established by brothers Patrick Mc Gowan, CEO of Mc Gowan Builders, Martin Mc Gowan, president of Mc Gowan Builders and Thomas Mc Gowan, has made a donation of $50,000 to the Friends of Cregg House Committee.
Cregg House, a facility that provides residential, respite, day and children's services to 200 service users with developmental disabilities, is located in the brothers' home county Ireland. The Friends of Cregg House Committee plans to use the monetary gift to support the development of a house in the community that will allow Cregg House service users to gain valuable experience and life skills within the neighborhood outside of Cregg's main campus.
A task force has been assembled to execute the project with the support of the local disability manager in the Health Service Executive (HSE). With cooperation from HSE in Silgo, the Friends of Cregg House Committee is pursuing a suitable location for the site and looking to secure building permission from local authorities. The house will enable a group of service users who currently live at the residential campus at Cregg to move to a community setting.
The Loretta Mc Gowan Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to foster research and educational efforts to help people with Down syndrome. The charity was created in honor of the Mc Gowan brothers' aunt Loretta, a caring and loving woman who was born with Down Syndrome. Ultimately, the Loretta Mc Gowan Foundation hopes to raise enough funds to establish its own facility to effectively research and educate on this genetic disorder, and a safe haven where individuals with Down Syndrome can socialize, learn and, most importantly, find happiness.
