Long Island Commercial Network holds commercial insurance meeting on July 23rd

LICN had their monthly meeting on July 23rd. The meeting was well attended with many guests that made this a particularly interesting time. The various committee chairs reported. The most notable was reported by the chair of the Tech Committee, Ira Zucker, about the launch of our updated website that will make it easy to upload all available properties along with other great benefits for members and sponsors. This was followed by our speaker, Howell Silverman of Howell Silverman Insurance. He spoke about commercial insurance particularly about flood insurance. He clarified that a separate policy is needed for the building and for contents. Howell made attendees aware that requirements are somewhat different for those who apply for flood insurance as a requirement for financing as compared to those who voluntarily apply. The discussion included the FEMA requirements to raise some buildings and some of the challenges that have arisen as a result, how to make claims to FEMA and some of the difficulties that arise in filing appeals. Some of the problem is that flood insurance is a federal program that is being administered by private insurance companies and so these private companies easily defer to whatever FEMA decides. LICN then proceeded to the final part of their meeting by going around the room and allowing everyone to introduce themselves and talk about their "Haves and Wants," This is an opportunity for both members and guests to introduce themselves and mention the properties they have for sale as well as their requirements for clients. Join LICN for their next breakfast, the 4th Tuesday of September.
