Woodbury, NY TheLong Island Commercial Network (LICN) held its general meeting on September 22nd at the On Parade Diner.  The meeting began with open networking session providing everyone with an opportunity to catch up as well as meet and introduce guests and new members.

The meeting was opened by Ira Zucker, president. Each committee was provided an opportunity to report on its progress during the month.  This was the first meeting after the summer during which there was only minor committee activity. The Education Committee reminded them of the  LIBOR Commercial Orientation that occurred on September 29th at the West Babylon center.  This orientation class (no CE credit) was open to both members and non-members.

According to Ed Smith, a new class, “Commercial and Investment Real Estate,” will be available. The class is a three-day certification program in commercial real estate. The class includes three hours of Fair Housing/Discrimination and NAR ethics training.  Check the LIREALTOR website under Education Designations & Certifications for class details, dates and costs.  They were again reminded of the NAR requirement that anyone practicing in an area of real estate must be competent in that area, and

LIBOR as well as other continuing education classes are an excellent way of acquiring the necessary skill set.

LICN welcomed several new and renewing members: Sine Matt of Coach Realtors, and John O’Kane of O’Kane Realty.

They then got into the education section, hosted by Stephen Deutsch; IFA, CSA-G, chairman at Goodman-Marks Associates, Inc. They had an in-depth presentation on commercial property assessment and its relationship to value. The takeaway from this extremely informative session was that both Nassau and Suffolk County commercial property assessments should be reviewed every year by property owners. There is very likely to be an assessment which can dramatically affect the value of the property. Goodman-Marks Associates specializes in this area and can be contacted at (516) 282-2903 or [email protected].

The meeting concluded with the “Haves and Wants” where all attendees have an opportunity to describe what properties they have for sale and what their customers are looking for. The LICN meets at the On Parade Diner, 7900 Jericho Tpke. on the fourth Tuesday of every month.  LICN’s next breakfast meeting will be held on October 22nd.

LICN will also be holding a LICN BOD & Sponsors Appreciation Luncheon on December 10th at Mulberry St. of Seaford, 3930 Sunrise Hwy. Seaford.
