LaPonte appointed CFO of Brookhaven IDA

Farmingville, NY According to Frederick Braun III, chairman of the town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA), Lori LaPonte, CPA has been appointed chief financial officer.

LaPonte, who had been the IDA’s auditor at Jones, Little & Co. CPAs LLP, of Port Jefferson Station, will continue to work at the accounting firm, which she joined as a partner in 2015. Her appointment was approved by the IDA’s board at its Aug. 17 meeting. The IDA, meanwhile, is in the process of retaining a new accounting firm for future audits.

“Lori LaPonte is exceptionally qualified to take over as the IDA’s chief financial officer,” said Braun. “She has worked with us for many years as our outside auditor and is familiar with our operations.”

LaPonte has worked in the accounting industry for 30 years performing accounting and audits of several homeowners’ associations, fire departments, benevolent associations, county agencies, commercial entities and other exempt organizations.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from C.W. Post / Long Island University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Suffolk County Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Since 1971, the mission of the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency has been to promote the economic welfare and prosperity of the Town of Brookhaven by assisting in the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, and equipping of commercial and industrial facilities. The IDA has issued millions of dollars in tax-exempt or taxable bonds and provided assistance through straight lease deals to encourage companies to either locate or expand in the Town of Brookhaven. This assistance has been extended to companies both large and small, and has resulted in the direct creation of thousands of jobs for Brookhaven residents. The IDA has provided assistance to a wide range of  companies, including Tate’s Bake Shop, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Precision International, LI Precast, Woodcrest, Uncle Wally’s, and Framerica.
