The N.J. Dept. of Community Affairs (DCA) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) funds energy audits for income-qualified residents to determine measures of increasing energy efficiency.
If the audit determines that the building qualifies for the implementation phase, the weatherization program will fund some of the following energy efficiency measures:
*Installing high efficiency boilers
*Replacing direct fire domestic hot water storage tanks
*Upgrading domestic water booster package systems
*Retrofitting chillers
*Installing variable speed drives on the pumps
*Optimizing control systems to better manage mechanical equipment sequencing
*Upgrading to high efficiency lighting fixtures, lamps and controls
Working closely with independent property managers and the State of New Jersey's Department of Energy, Kipcon Inc. is now in the process of performing five comprehensive energy audits under a tight deadline. The communities are located in Atlantic City, East Orange, Newark and Trenton and the energy audit reports are due to the state for review by the end of September.
Working with partner company Energy Squared, Kipcon's specific scope of work includes an analysis of twelve consecutive months of utility bills and developing a building model as part of this comprehensive energy audit. In addition, Kipcon is working to develop weatherization construction plans for the implementation phase of the program.
"We are very proud that Kipcon and Energy Squared have been awarded not only one, but five of these weatherization projects," said Kipcon President Mitchell H. Frumkin, PE, RS, CGP. "It is not an easy job, but we are putting all of our efforts into getting these reports completed so that these families can receive the financial help they need."
