As I celebrate being sworn in as the 2008 president of the Institute of Real Estate Management's Greater New York Chapter, IREM National has also begun a huge celebration. 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of IREM. Festivities have begun and will continue throughout the year. And we've got a lot to celebrate. IREM has an ever-growing role as a leader in educating real estate property and asset managers, certifying their competence, encouraging strong business ethics and serving as a voice to be heard on industry related issues that impact all of us. With 81 U.S. chapters and eight international chapters, our members are the driving force behind the success of this organization. Our chapter has always made every effort to meet the needs of our members. This year, in response to suggestions from our members, one of the ways we decided to celebrate is by hosting our first annual Asset Management Symposium on February 19th at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City. We believe strongly that the way to insure successful business is to educate those who work with you. With this in mind, we are offering our members and guests real-time information concerning the rapidly changing real estate asset management industry. Our programs are tailored to meet the needs of both senior and junior level managers and will focus on a wide variety of topics. The day will provide a non-competitive environment where attendees can listen, learn and exchange ideas regarding the challenges and opportunities facing real estate asset managers. Please visit our website for further details. Join us in Atlantic City. Let's learn. Let's celebrate!
James Hayden, CPM, is the 2008 president of IREM, New York, N.Y.
