Developers Uri Kaufman and Ira Schwartz held a ground breaking ceremony for phase two of the Harmony Mills Fallsview Lofts. The project cost is $24 million.
The subject is the former home of the 850,000 s/f Harmony Mills complex. The Mills produced garments for a large portion of the U.S. population in the late 1800s. In 2000, Kaufman and Schwartz bought the complex for $1.7 million.
Phase two will include the conversion of the south end of the mill into 135 loft-style apartments and the construction of a swimming pool and a fitness center. Phase one was completed several years ago and included the renovation of the north end of the mill which created 96 units.
