IBEX Construction breaks ground on 48,000 s/f "triangle building"

IBEX Construction (IBEX), a New York-based firm specializing in corporate, institutional and retail construction, broke ground on February 8 on a 48,000 s/f building in Washington Heights which will be the new home of Alianza Dominicana, one of the most comprehensive Dominican human service and community development agencies in the nation. IBEX is providing construction management services for the 6-story project, which will be built in the form of a triangle, similar to the historic Flatiron Building, at the intersection of 166th St. and St. Nicholas and Audubon Aves.   The facility will support close to 100 Alianza staff members and allow the organization to expand the spectrum of services it provides for the community.  A new cultural center will be included at the site and feature a TV studio, performing arts space, and an arts education space.  In addition to becoming Alianza Dominicana's new headquarters, the building also will include offices for Columbia University, and commercial venues such as a bank.   "This building will truly leave a legacy in the community for generations to come," said Andy Frankl, chairman and CEO of IBEX Construction. "We are proud to be working with Columbia University and Alianza Dominicana in bringing this important project to fruition." "IBEX has a hands-on and detail-oriented approach that is needed for a project like this which is so important to the future of this community," said Martin Garcia, project coordinator.   The "triangle building" is designed by Davis Brody Bond Architects. Construction is slated for completion by early 2009.
