Hundreds of visitors, from the development community and the public, joined by public officials, crowded the Long Island Builders Institute's Superstorm Sandy Resource Expo on March 20 in the Grand Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Long Island.
The five-hour show featured almost a hundred builders, suppliers, service providers, real estate and insurance experts and others who serve the homebuilding and remodeling industry as well as for homeowners still rebuilding after the storm. The show offered homeowners an opportunity to learn about new products and obtain assistance for their rebuilding efforts
"Although there remains a great deal of rebuilding before our communities can return to their former states, the consensus seems to be that we're headed in the right direction, but we need to keep the momentum going. That's why LIBI created the Superstorm Resource Expo and opened it to the public," said Mitchell Pally, chief executive of LIBI.
Among the exhibitors attracting attention was that of Hayward Waterman, the supplier of Caliwel non-toxic, mold-killing paint.
The show also marked the debut of LIBI's List, the trade group's free referral source for reputable builders, contactors, remodelers and related service professionals.
Among public officials at the event were Babylon supervisor Rich Schaffer, Babylon village mayor Ralph Scordino, Brookhaven councilwoman Kathy Walsh, Babylon deputy supervisor Tony Martinez and Suffolk County labor commissioner Sammy Chu.
