Manhattan, NY L+M Companies elevated L+M executives Eben Ellertson as its chief executive officer and Carrie Van Syckel as its president and chief investment officer. Building on L+M’s 40-year track record of creating lasting, positive change, Ellertson and Van Syckel will drive the company’s national expansion while reinforcing its position as a leading developer across the greater New York City market. The firm’s presence now extends to 15 states, having developed or invested in more than 66,000 homes with overall capitalization of more than $25 billion spanning affordable and mixed-income housing development, affordable housing preservation, and construction.

Ellertson and Van Syckel are L+M veterans, having worked together for over a decade. Together in their new roles, they will oversee L+M’s vertically integrated approach to affordable and mixed-income housing development and preservation. Their elevation is part of a long-planned transition for the company, bringing over 40 years of combined experience in the affordable and mixed-income housing development and investment industries.

Ellertson and Van Syckel will constitute a leadership team along with David Dishy, who will continue in his role as chief executive officer of LMXD, the L+M affiliate focused on mixed-income and mixed-use development. Lisa Gomez, L+M Development Partners’ CEO, will transition to executive chair beginning January 1, 2027, to focus on strategic policy and advocacy initiatives that advance the mission of expanding affordable housing opportunities.

“Across the country, the need for quality affordable and mixed-income housing has never been higher, and L+M is committed to meeting the moment to support our residents and to deliver for our partners in government,” said Eben Ellertson, chief executive officer of L+M Companies. “With a 40-year track record, we are actively pursuing a new phase of growth beyond our current footprint of 15 states – while continuing our longstanding and unwavering commitment to New York City.”

“L+M has grown into a nationally recognized developer and investor with deep expertise in affordable and mixed-income housing,” said Van Syckel. “Our vertically integrated platform, long-term investment approach and commitment to meaningful community impact have been central to our success in New York and beyond. New York remains core to who we are, and as we expand into new markets, we’ll stay true to the principles that have guided L+M for decades.”

These appointments underscore L+M Companies’ enduring commitment to the New York region as one of the country’s leading housing developers, reinforcing its focus on partnering with city, state, and federal agencies to deliver public-private solutions to the affordability crisis.

L+M also continues to solidify its national growth strategy, driven by recent strategic hires in key markets across Texas, the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southeast, and California, where L+M is pursuing opportunities to scale across business lines and leverage its integrated expertise to help address the growing demand for affordable housing and create lasting community impact. Demonstrating its ability to execute creative platform partnerships, the firm also recently closed on a strategic investment in Meta Development, a leading affordable housing developer in California with a 30-year track record and a best-in-class management team with deep expertise in the California market.

Ellertson joined L+M in 2010 to launch its fund business focused on acquiring affordable, workforce, and mixed-income housing throughout the country and has been critical to the broader firm’s national expansion efforts. Earlier, Ellertson held acquisitions roles at affordable housing and investment firms in New York City and worked for the Bloomberg administration focused on structuring public-private real estate partnerships for the New York City Department of Education.

Van Syckel joined L+M in 2016 to build the fund business with Ellertson and work across various departments at L+M, becoming chief investment officer in 2021. Prior to joining L+M, Van Syckel was a managing director at Goldman Sachs and the chief operating officer of the Urban Investment Group where she focused on investing in affordable and workforce housing and community development.
