Melville, NY H2M architects + engineers promoted Erik Heuler, Associate AIA, LEEP AP BD+ from project designer to project architect in its emergency services studio. Heuler has experience with public agencies and has assisted the H2M education studio as well. In his new role, Heuler will be coordinating projects with the other disciplines, reviewing designs in house and with clients, handling construction administration, performing program and code analysis and handling more complex projects moving forward than he was in his previous role in project designer. Heuler also oversees the sustainability committee at H2M. “Working with an interdisciplinary team, goals have been identified for project approaches, as well as internal practices, that advance H2M’s mission of building sustainable communities,” Heuler said. “Tools are currently being put into place to help improve the quality of H2M’s work by identifying items that require careful attention between disciplines and promote data driven decisions based on metrics including energy use, carbon emissions, and daylight levels. I believe that with the right tools and an integrated project approach all of H2M’s projects can advance sustainability.” “Because of Erik’s sustainability background and his understanding of integrated design, in his new position, he’s going to be able to have a stronger influence on developing and designing projects in a more environmentally responsible way for H2M,” said Danny Tanzi, studio director in the firm’s architecture department. “I see my promotion as an opportunity to have input on projects that are more complex and have more potential to positively impact our communities,” said Heuler. “It is also an opportunity to more formally help develop staff and improve the quality of H2M’s work.” Heuler received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1996 and his Bachelor of Architecture from the New York Institute of Technology in 2006 and joined H2M in 2014. He also has a children’s book published, A is for Architecture. He currently resides in Bay Shore with his wife Denise and their dog Jenny.
