Hampton Chutney Company signs 15 year lease at 740 Broadway

Manhattan, NY According to GFP Real Estate, Hampton Chutney Company, the Hamptons-based café serving traditional South Indian-inspired dosas and chutneys, has signed a 15-year lease for a 2,786 s/f of retail space at 740 Broadway in NoHo. The new location will be the company’s first Manhattan location since 2021.

Neith Stone of GFP Real Estate, as well as Ross Kaplan and William Chaplin of Newmark, represented the landlord, GFP Real Estate in the transaction. Spencer Levy of CBRE represented the tenant, Devi Dosa LLC, d.b.a. Hampton Chutney Company. The new location comprises 1,256 s/f of ground-floor retail space and 1,530 s/f of basement space for storage.

“We are excited to welcome Hampton Chutney Company back to New York City at 740 Broadway, right in the heart of NoHo,” said Stone. “This high-visibility location puts them in the center of a vibrant neighborhood filled with students, locals, office workers and tourists—an ideal spot for the brand to reconnect with the city and reach a wide, diverse audience.”

Hampton Chutney Company was founded by Gary and Isabel MacGurn, who began making fresh chutneys in 1995, first selling them to local Hamptons gourmet markets and then to major New York City retailers like Fairway, Zabar’s, and Balducci’s. In 1997, they opened their first café in Amagansett, NY, where their dosas—large, crispy sourdough crêpes—quickly drew daily energetic lunch crowds and long lines. The MacGurns expanded in 2001 with two New York City cafés, which operated until 2021. That same year, after 24 years in Amagansett, they relocated their flagship to East Hampton Village.

“We’re excited to welcome Hampton Chutney Company to 2 Astor Place,” said Kaplan. “GFP was focused on finding a tenant that aligned with the energy and quality of the building and the neighborhood, and Hampton Chutney Company is a perfect fit. They are a great partner to add tremendous value to the property and streetscape.”

Built in 1912, 740 Broadway is a 12-story, 152,000 s/f loft building designed by architect Francis H. Kimball in Beaux-Arts style. Situated on the Southeast corner of Broadway and Astor Place in NoHo, the landmarked building offers a unique combination of history and modern appeal. Tenants enjoy views wrapping around the corner, high ceilings, and flexible floorplates. The building's recent renovation includes a lobby featuring architectural media walls showcasing breathtaking nature scenes.
