H2M receives ACEC Engineering Excellence Award

The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC NY) has awarded H2M architects + engineers a 2015 Engineering Excellence Award in the Waste and Storm Water category. H2M was recognized with a Silver Award for the Hauppauge Industrial Park's wastewater treatment plant expansion. The $44.8 million plant expansion was designed to replace the area's existing ITT and Heartland treatment plants, and its hydraulic capacity of 1.56 million gallons per day is approximately four times that of the ITT and Heartland plants combined. It was designed to biologically treat an industrial waste stream that is three to four times that of typical domestic waste, and it reduces potable water consumption by using treated effluent for maintenance cleaning. The expansion was first requested by the Hauppauge Industrial Association on behalf of businesses within the park. It has since allowed current businesses to expand and has attracted new businesses to the park. The ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Competition celebrates the most outstanding project achievements of the consulting engineering industry. Each year, over 60 firms submit projects that are judged on a rigorous set of criteria that includes complexity, innovation, and value to society. Each project was selected for its demonstration of superior skill and ingenuity. H2M received its award at a black tie gala on March 28th at The Waldorf Astoria. Its winning project panels was exhibited at a reception preceding the dinner.
