During the last 10 years of your career, which professional accomplishment, honor or achievement was most meaningful to you and why? Being honored by ULI-NY and real estate friends for starting the UrbanPlan progam in NYC high schools was most gratifying. I'm passionate about education and UrbanPlan is a month-long program that is infused into a high school economics or social studies course, teaching students the trade-offs between public and private interests as they redesign a 16 acre site. Not only do the student learn real estate, but it enhances their math, speaking, presentation, and teamwork skills as well. How do you contribute to your company and / or the industry? I contribute in many ways such as teaching graduate capital markets courses at NYU, Columbia and New York Law School; mentoring young professionals through organized programs and informally; working on the scholarship committee for WX; publications in various magazines and websites; and ULI-New York's UrbanPlan, for which I faciliate and judge. What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate? Resilience and education are paramount- careers are evolutionary (not necessarily a 45 degree projectory),and they will learn and make contacts at each step that will add value to their life and careers. The multifaceted nature of real estate keeps it interesting. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? No one person, but a group of wonderful people from various firms at which I've worked (Salomon, JP Morgan, Cushman & Wakefield, Ernst & Young, O'Connor Group, and Moody's) and organizations constitute my kitchen cabinet of resources.
