Name: Nicola Heryet Title: Senior Managing Director, Principal Company/firm: Cassidy Turley Years with Company/firm: 16 Years in field: 29 Years in real estate industry: 35 Address: 277 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10172 Telephone: 212.318.9792 Email: [email protected] URL: www.cassidyturley.com Real estate organizations/affiliations: YMWREA, REBNY, CoreNet During the last 10 years of your career, which professional accomplishment, honor or achievement was most meaningful to you and why? Receiving the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association (YMWREA) Young Real Estate Woman of the Year Award. It is such a wonderful organization that is really about integrity, professionalism, and reaching out to help fellow members of the real estate community. Just to be a member of this select group is an honor, but gathering with this group of genuinely good people, an honoree meant the most to me. Which project, deal or transaction was the 'game changer' in the advancement of your career during the last 10 years? Working with Kellwood for the past 20 years has been very significant for me. They are an organization that was once public and then went private and I have worked with them throughout their various real estate cycles, acting as advisor and consultant, as well as broker. A great deal of time goes into all of their deals and it's always thrilling to see years of strategy and work come together as we create solutions that offer them maximum flexibility. How do you contribute to your company and / or the industry? I'm proud to be a shareholder at Cassidy Turley as well as a team leader. We are constantly looking to attract new talent and grow the firm. I am a former chairman of YMWREA and remain an active member. I also serve on REBNY's Commercial Board of Directors and CoreNet New York's membership committee. What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate? My first piece of advice is to develop relationships with other women in the industry - my experience has shown that women love to help other women. Secondly, there are numerous opportunities to add value to existing teams that are currently without women. Adding a unique perspective will set you and your team apart. How do you manage the work/life balance? Managing a balance between work and life is always a challenge. I consistently set aside personal time each week for specific tasks and always prioritize my calendar so I have time for life outside of work. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? While I have been influenced by many people, the members of YM/WREA have had the strongest influence on my career. How are you using social media to promote yourself, your products and / or your firm? Social media has allowed me to find people with whom I have lost touch over the years, and allows me to communicate much more easily and efficiently while being productive. Where would you like to be 10 years from today? Returning to the office from a lovely golf and beach vacation, where my handicap is much lower, of course.
