Fapohunda of Farmingdale State College discusses the most interesting project that she has worked on

Discuss an interesting, or rewarding, project that you have worked on.
My life as a Dean at Farmingdale State College has been challenging as the college has evolved from being a two-year institution to a four-year college of applied sciences and technology. I have had the opportunity to work closely with faculty on new bachelor degree programs in Applied Mathematics, Economics and Psychology. I have also served on several search committees seeking experienced faculty for new four-year programs who will carry on Farmingdale's commitment of teaching excellence.  It has also been extremely rewarding being a mentor for students and faculty. Often Farmingdale students are the first in their family to attend college and therefore do not have anyone at home to advise them about college issues. It has been a privilege to contribute to the development of these students.
I have also been fascinated by our professors' research agendas which often seek to improve the wellbeing of our communities. Several professors have focused on the alternative energy needs of New York including solar energy and hydrogen fuel cells as well as "green building" research. Still others are seeking ways of improving the health care delivery systems of our community hospitals. My colleagues share their research concerns with government officials, businessmen and interested citizens at conferences and workshops held on campus. The college also encourages students to learn about important practical issues through internships and participation in conferences offered right on campus such as the "Long Island Science and Technology Conference."
