EW Howell Construction promotes Hagen to vice president of education division

Plainview, NY According to EW Howell Construction Group, Jack Hagen has risen to vice president of the firm’s education division. Additionally, Daniel Navarro has been promoted to project executive within the division. 

“With Jack’s immense experience in the education construction sector, he was the perfect fit to oversee all of EW Howell Construction Group’s education projects as vice president of the division,” said Howard Rowland, president of EW Howell. “Additionally, Dan’s expertise in project management for education-sector projects has been a strength for EW Howell, and his ability to coordinate all of the moving parts is key to helping us deliver projects on-time and on-budget for our clients.”

This October, the education division celebrated the grand opening of the new North Avenue Residence Hall at Iona College in New Rochelle. The 100,000 s/f residence hall offers 7,000 s/f of retail space on the ground level, while the upper six floors include accommodations for 310 students in suite-style apartments with no more than four students per suite. Other recent projects completed by the division include the Northwell School of Medicine at Hofstra University. Currently under construction is PS 338, a new 105,000 s/f public school in Brooklyn on behalf of the NYC School Construction Authority, and PS 49 in Queens.

Hagen has more than 42 years of experience in the construction industry, in both the public and private sectors. He joined EW Howell’s Plainview, Long Island office in 2014 as Project Executive. Prior to his career at EW Howell he was Director of Construction for the New York State University Construction Fund, the largest higher education capital construction program in the country. Over the course of his career, Hagen has worked on projects for Iona College, Stony Brook University, Buffalo State College, Cornell University, and the New York City School Construction Authority. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in New York and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University and a Master of Professional Studies (Industrial & Labor Relations) from Cornell University.

Daniel Navarro joined EW Howell’s Plainview, Long Island office in 2004 as a Project Manager, and has nearly 15 years’ experience in the industry, with projects ranging from residence halls at Iona College and New York Institute of Technology, to the Hofstra University School of Medicine. Navarro’s new role includes overseeing all aspects of a project, from general administration and liaising with owner/architect, and coordinating the efforts of all members of the project team. He holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from SUNY Farmingdale, and is LEED AP certified professional.
