DDB presents 2012 Stars of Design award; New category "Stars on the Rise"

The Decoration and Design Building (DDB)'s jury has selected this year's Stars of Design Honorees, and celebrated them with a black-tie dinner and ceremony on Wednesday, October 10th, the first day of the DDB Fall Market, according to Charles Cohen, president/owner of the DDB.
Cohen served as the host of the event, which, in keeping with tradition, took place at the building - 979 Third Ave., in the Astra Café, with cuisine provided by Charlie Palmer - and is attended by the design industry's elite.
The 2012 honorees are:
* Lifetime Achievement: Richard Meier, managing partner of Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP
* Interior Design: Juan Montoya
* Architecture: Allan Greenberg
* Industrial Design: Dror Benshetrit
* Graphic Design: Stefan Sagmeister
* Landscape Architecture: Laura Starr, Stephen Whitehouse, and Jeffrey Poor of Starr Whitehouse
* Architectural Photography: Durston Saylor
* Art: Peter Halley
The event also saluted five winners of a new award category called "Stars on the Rise," established this year. Recipients are distinguished designers emerging as the new guard in the world of New York design. They include:
* Rafael De Cardenas
* Kelly Behun
* Brad Ford
* Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller of Carrier & Company
* Jayne Michaels and Joan Michaels of 2 Michaels
Established over a decade ago in Los Angeles at Pacific Design Center and expanded to New York City, Miami and Houston six years ago, the Stars of Design recognize and honor creative talent and significant contributions to a wide range of design disciplines and communities, both locally and internationally.
The judges who selected this year's honorees are industry leaders and experts in the fields of art, home furnishings, architecture and design, along with three award winners from last year.
