Davidson of Transwestern Real Estate Services brokers 2,800 s/f lease for Republic Capital Group

Manhattan, NY Transwestern Real Estate Services (TRS) brokered the headquarters lease for Republic Capital Group at 50 Rockefeller Plaza. Lauren Davidson, senior vice president at Transwestern, represented the investment bank in the lease, with in-house representation from Tishman Speyer.

Republic Capital Group is scheduled to move its 11-person team to its new 2,800 s/f, 12th floor office in the fourth quarter of 2023.

“We experienced significant growth during 2022, a year during which Republic Capital was the most active investment bank in its industry for wealth management,” said John Langston, managing partner of Republic Capital. “We decided to look for new office space that would allow us to better support our valued clients in an environment consistent with our profile in the market. Although we had multiple cities to choose from, we determined early on that the firm would commit to New York City for its headquarters location.”

Built in the 1930s, the 16-story 50 Rockefeller Plaza is an Art Deco-style structure formerly known as the Associated Press Building that for decades housed that news agency’s headquarters. A distinctive part of the building is the façade’s 10-ton stainless steel sculpture by artist Isamu Noguchi titled “News” and located at the main entrance as a tribute to journalism. As part of its dedicated focus on hospitality, Tishman Speyer commissioned renowned design firm Studio Mellone to redesign the building’s lobby, which was recently completed. Radio Park—a new green space on the roof of the building—opened in fall 2021, fulfilling the vision of the original architects.

As a new customer, all Republic Capital employees have access to ZO, Tishman Speyer’s comprehensive suite of amenities and services, including fitness programming, for tenants in its buildings worldwide.

“Republic Capital was attracted to Rockefeller Center for its great location and top-tier amenities, as well as how the building reflects the image the firm has established,” said Davidson. “The lease is indicative of the increasing demand in Midtown for high-quality, pre-designed suites.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Republic Capital to Rockefeller Center,” said EB Kelly, senior managing director at Tishman Speyer and head of Rockefeller Center. “Establishing an office at 50 Rockefeller Plaza ensures that the Republic Capital team will be in the heart of the city, with the celebrated dining, retail, and entertainment you can only find at the Center.”

Tri-state capital migrates nationally amid regulation pressure - by Reese Weaver

New York tri-state multifamily investors are increasingly reallocating capital to less-regulated markets across the U.S. as rent control and legislative risk erode returns at home. With over 60% of New York City’s rental housing stock classified as rent-stabilized, the traditional value-add model — buying under-performing buildings,
