Crystal Window & Door Systems is the supplier for one of the largest window replacement projects currently underway in the metro area. The national manufacturer is furnishing 20,000 aluminum and vinyl double-hung, sliding, picture and bay windows for the 134 low-rise buildings of the Glen Oaks Village complex.
Dun-Rite, Inc. of Brooklyn is the window installer for the project. "Crystal and Dun-Rite collaborated with the Glen Oaks Village co-op board through a series of meetings and presentations to residents to show them the selection of window styles and replacement configurations available," said Robert Dorsky, Crystal's sales representative and project manager for the Glen Oaks Village project. "We are closely coordinating deliveries of new windows for installation with Dun-Rite and the Glen Oaks Board to minimize disruption to residents during the construction period." The project is on schedule and expected to be completed later this year.
The project uses 15,000 of Crystal's popular aluminum 3-1/4" frame depth Series 2000A tilt sash double-hung with anti-drift head clip lock and Series 2100 picture windows. The strong durable energy efficient windows are AAMA rated H-C60/CW-PG50 for the double-hung and FW-HC55/CW-PG60 for the fixed window. The 2000A and 2100 use 7/8" insulating glass units (IGUs).
5,000 Crystal Series 5600 heavy-duty 2 and 3-light sliding aluminum windows are also specified for the Glen Oaks project. These windows have an AAMA rating of HS-AW40/AW50. The 3-1/4" sliding windows utilize heavy-duty 0.093" sill frame extrusions, double-meeting rail interlocks and 1" IGUs. Despite their strong construction, the Crystal Series 5600 sliding windows are easy to operate with dual stainless steel sash rollers, a stainless steel reinforced roller track frame and full height continuous combination sash clip lock pull rails.
The project also calls for the installation of 170 of Crystal's Bay Window units, each with a large Series 210 vinyl picture window flanked by two Series 200 vinyl double-hung windows. Both energy efficient windows have 3-1/4" frame depths and use7/8" IGU dual-pane glass.
The Crystal bay units feature strong durable 6" thick multi-chamber vinyl frame walls and wood seat and head panels. In order to match the look of the existing bay windows being replaced, the Crystal bay units will come with a pre-installed custom fabricated white aluminum clad high-pitch roof system.
The Crystal windows also include optional energy efficiency and installation upgrades. All the windows were ordered with PPG Solarban 60 low-E glass and argon gas filled insulating glass units for enhanced thermal performance. For fresh air ventilation, fiber mesh half-screens were specified for all the new operating windows. A large custom face flange fin and snap trim were specified to expedite installation of the aluminum replacement windows.
Situated on Union Turnpike near the New York City/Nassau County border, Glen Oaks Village is a self-managed cooperative housing development. Spread over 110 acres, the curved residential streets of the complex's two main sections feature 134 two- and three-story brick buildings with over 2,900 one-, two-, and three-bedroom garden style apartments. Glen Oaks Village was originally built in 1947 to help fill the void of starter housing for WWII GIs and was converted to cooperative status in 1981. The well-maintained community features ample garage and on-street parking, many on-site laundry and storage rooms, and recreational facilities throughout the property.
