February 22, 2010 - Front Section
John Cerveny has been appointed VP for government affairs at TechCity, according to Dan Wieneke, president of TechCity Properties. Cerveny will assist TechCity and its current and prospective tenants in efforts related to business development and public sector funding.
Prior to joining TechCity, Cerveny was the founder and president of New Energy Resources, LLC. As the firm's principal, he secured funding and developed marketing strategies for firms engaged in energy harvesting, advanced batteries and green building materials, among other fields. He was a founder of the U.S. Fuel Cell Council and served as an advisor to the NY Solar Energy Industries Association.
Wieneke said, "There are enormous opportunities for companies in the renewable energy and clean-tech industries and TechCity wants to be a leader in helping these companies succeed. John has a wealth of experience, contacts and knowledge that can help meet the needs of early stage, fast growing businesses and can put that at the disposal of companies in this region that want and need support. With government at all levels interested in developing these green-collar jobs, John can play a role in helping companies of the future become a reality today."
Cerveny said, "TechCity's commitment to sustainable development and the creation of green jobs for Ulster County presents a tremendous opportunity for me to help innovative businesses to grow, especially in the field of alternative and renewable energy. I am a long-time upstate New Yorker, and there's nothing I'd rather do than work with the Hudson Valley's community of talented, high tech pioneers."

Cerveny is a Six Sigma quality leader. He holds a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the Lally School of Business at RPI.
