PROGRAM INFORMATION

30% of all waste in the world can be attributed to construction materials as buildings and their interiors are designed, built, and discarded. But a growing movement in the AEC industry is looking for ways to decouple its economic growth from resource depletion.

Innovative leaders are designing reversible buildings with demountable components that can be transformed into new structures. And, the very concept of a building itself is in flux as developers, architects, and engineers approach buildings a “material banks” whose parts can be shared, re-used and leased indefinitely, creating a radical rethink of our built asset value chain.

This emerging circular construction market is beginning to disrupt the traditional linear model making it possible for existing or future buildings to be treated simply as a material repositories, where all of the components, materials and products used are documented and “stored” for future recovery. Ultimately, this will keep structures in perpetual use and out of our waste stream.

Join us for a cocktail reception and case study presentation at the beautiful Steelcase Showroom Penthouse! You will learn more from leading circularity experts about unique strategies that can be implemented by New York City’s architects, engineers, and contractors to advance circularity practices within their companies.
