BOMA/NY professor Durrah teaches Environmental Health & Safety Issues; Fall semester gets underway September 12th

New York, NY It may be the dog days of summer, but this August school is in full swing at BOMA/NY with a new professor leading the very vital and timely course on Environmental Health & Safety Issues.

James Durrah, MPA, the health services manager of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, is teaching the accelerated version of this RPA, FMA and SMA-mandated course covering such topics as:

• OSHA and EPA regulations

• Hazard communication

• Emergency response

• Asbestos and lead management

• Office and industrial ergonomics

• Indoor air quality and air quality management

• Air pollution control

• Storage tanks

• Hazardous waste and PCBs.

The collaboration with Durrah represents another dimension of BOMA/NY’s growing relationship with the Department, which has worked with the Association most recently on combatting and preventing Legionella, and maintaining water tank safety.

BOMA/NY’s fall semester gets underway officially on September 12th. The curriculum includes the following:

• The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems Parts I and II (two courses, mandatory for the RPA and FMA)

• Law & Risk Management (RPA mandatory)

• Budgeting & Accounting (RPA mandatory)

• Leasing & Marketing for Property Managers (RPA elective)

The Environmental Health & Safety Issues course will also be offered again, and a LEED GA class is also on the schedule. Information on all classes, costs, instructors, and the value of professional designations in building a successful commercial real estate management career can be found at www.bomany.org or by contacting BOMA/NY’s director of education Mary Sorgente at [email protected] or (212) 239-3662.
