BBS Architects & Engineers, P.C. acquired the professional team and practice of Ward Associates, P.C., a Bohemia, NY-headquartered master planning, architecture, landscape architecture, sports facilities design, civil engineering and surveying firm active in the Greater New York area and throughout the New York State.
Roger Smith, AIA, LEED AP, will lead the expanded design firm as president, principal and lead
architect. The merged companies will operate under the new name of BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers, PC. The company will be headquartered at BBS' office in Patchogue, and offer a full scope of architecture and engineering services to clients in the Northeast and nationwide.
"The addition of the Ward Associates team to BBS's practice brings together the talents and extensive expertise of two highly distinguished and service-driven design firms, particularly in the landscape architecture and civil engineering fields. Following the acquisition, BBS manages on-going projects valued at approximately $220 million and offers a complete range of architectural and engineering services required by commercial, educational, institutional and governmental clients," said Smith. "The complementary expertise and client base made Ward a perfect acquisition partner in order to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Long Island, New York City, Westchester and other markets in the Northeast."

Richard Ward, ASLA, Ward Associates president and CEO said, "BBS' leading position in the Greater New York area will open new markets and career opportunities to our designers and engineers, particularly in the civil engineering, green design, and educational and institutional sectors. The combined strengths of both firms have created an unparalleled design organization."
Following the expansion, BBS' personnel include more than 50 architects, planners, interior designers, civil and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) engineers, landscape architects, lighting designers, project managers and support staff.
Founded in 1975, BBS is a leading regional and national designer of sustainable educational, institutional and commercial facilities. BBS designed the first LEED-certified public school in New York State, the Hampton Bays Middle School in Hampton Bays, and since 2010 has had 10 projects that either received LEED certifications or are undergoing the certification process. LEED is a nationally recognized sustainability evaluation program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Ward Associates, P.C. was founded in 1971 as Ward-Halpert-Rafaelli, P.C. The firm developed into a full-service architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sports planning, and interior design practice.

Ward's clients include federal, state and municipal agencies, private and public K-12 schools, colleges and universities, sports facilities, not-for-profits, religious communities, as well as private commercial and corporate organizations.
