In the last 12 months, which project, transaction, honor or accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
I am being honored by the YMCA of Greater New York at its annual Arts & Letters Reception this month. I have represented the YMCA for more than 20 years, and over the past few years I have served on its Leadership Council, which raises money for programs that support New York City children. Being able to help children, who would otherwise simply not have the opportunity to achieve move past limited circumstances and shape better futures, gives me tremendous pride and satisfaction.
What was your first job and what did you learn from it?
The first summer job I had was rolling typewriter correction tape onto spools. You mindlessly theaded the tape onto the spool, pressed a button and inhaled white caustic dust as the spool loaded. And you did it again and again and again. It was the only job I ever quit, but I still think about the people who were not and are not in a position to do that. And I am extremely grateful every day that I have an interesting, challenging and rewarding professional life.
What is your favorite quote?
"You trust your mother but you cut the cards!"
What social media and/or face to face networking activities do you find most beneficial professionally?
While I am connected to all of the electronic media networks and attend professional development and charity functions, I find that the best networking comes from satisfied clients. There is no promotion or networking that is better - or more gratifying - than a client's referral and a considerable portion of my business is as the result of clients' recommendations. In New York City, word-of-mouth goes a long way, and I am delighted to be the "go to" counsel for my clients.
