Aufgang Architects reports over 10,000 multifamily units in its design pipeline in NYC

Manhattan, NY Aufgang Architects reports over 10,000 multifamily units across almost 40 design projects in its pipeline throughout New York City.

“Diverse projects in our multifamily pipeline range from supportive and deeply affordable housing through market rate and luxury units,” said Ariel Aufgang, AIA, principal of Aufgang Architects. “They are in a broad range of development from permit filing through completion this year.”

“My colleagues and I are committed to playing a role in addressing New York’s housing crisis and supporting the mayor’s goals,” said Aufgang.

He pointed to four of his firm’s major current design projects:

• One of the largest affordable housing projects underway in NYC, Edgemere Commons in Far Rockaway, Queens, will have more than 2,000 100% affordable or supportive units on a nine-acre site. Aufgang also provided urban planning for the former hospital site developed by The Arker Companies and Tishman Speyer with Breaking Ground, Block Institute and the WellLife Network serving as nonprofit partners.

• The former Stewart Hotel in midtown Manhattan is being converted into 579-units of affordable and supportive housing developed by Slate Property Group and Breaking Ground. Aufgang previously partnered with Slate and Riseboro on repurposing the former JFK Hilton Hotel in Queens in the first hotel-to-affordable housing conversion in NYC, the award-winning Baisley Pond Park Residences.

• A new 500-unit 100% affordable multifamily building in the Bronx, to be built adjacent to the Kingsbridge Armory, the largest armory in the U.S., which will be converted to community use for sports and cultural activities, developed by MADDD Equities.

• The rehabilitation and preservation of 3,000 units at several NYCHA sites in the Bronx, partnering with HPD, including some landmarked and on the National Register of Historic Places.

Aufgang’s design projects are dispersed across all five boroughs, 6,500 units in the Bronx, about 2,200 in Queens, more than 1,000 in Brooklyn, nearly 1,000 in Manhattan, with urban planning and rezoning work on Staten Island.

In just the past decade, Aufgang has designed more than 13 million s/f of built space, comprising over 13,000 residential units across more than 100 affordable and market rate multifamily projects. These new construction and preservation projects were capitalized at a total of approximately $3 billion.

Aufgang is known for its thoughtful, creative approach that also recognizes the importance of environmental sustainability in all aspects of design and engineering. Technology, including innovative proprietary artificial intelligence applications, enhances the firm’s ability to design comfortable, safe and sustainable multifamily buildings that meet its clients’ objectives.

Aufgang is a certified Minority Business Enterprise.
