Uniondale, NY Partner Douglas Atkins has been selected by the Long Island Business News for the 40 under 40 Award Class of 2016. He was recognized for his leadership in business, and his commitment to the Long Island community. Atkins concentrates his practice in the areas of tax certiorari, real estate and condemnation. He has experience in tax reduction proceedings for all types of commercial real estate throughout the region’s counties, towns and villages. Atkins also has obtained substantial tax refunds for owners of specialty properties such as cellular phone tower sites, sand processing plants and tidal wetlands. Further, he successfully represented villages in defense of property tax matters. Atkins who became partner as of January 2016, has successfully completed both commercial and residential real estate appraisal courses through the Columbia Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He is a member of the Nassau and Suffolk County Bar Associations, where he serves on the Tax Certiorari and Condemnation Law Committee for each. He is a frequent lecturer and writer on the topics of commercial property tax and valuation. For his accomplishments in the legal arena, Atkins has been honored and awarded a number of times. New York Super Lawyers magazine, an annual publication honoring the region’s top lawyers, named him one of the outstanding young risers (2011-2015). Long Island Business News awarded him with the “Leadership in Law Award” in the law firm associates category (2012). Finally, the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce named him one of the region’s top 30 professionals under the age of 30 (2009).
