Manhattan, NY For the 10th consecutive year, Ariel Property Advisors presented an internship program to graduating seniors from The Chapin School, an all-girls independent day school located on the Upper East Side.

Six students from The Chapin School participated in the four-day, educational commercial real estate course. The program is designed to introduce the interns to the commercial real estate industry, with a specialized focus on the NYC market. It also includes the completion of an investment property case study, culminating in a presentation to Ariel’s partners and volunteers.

Michael Tortorici, founding partner, spearheaded the initiative, and Rachel Courtney, operations manager, coordinated the program along with participation from Ariel professionals in the investment sales, capital services and research groups. Investment sales associates Paul Monaco and Jack Mastrocola served as intern mentors; Nicole Daniggelis, an associate director in investment sales, and Sahil Modi, an associate in capital services, led sessions; and investment sales Analyst Waliya Ahmed presented the analyst training and helped put the program together.

“Ariel Property Advisors developed The Chapin School internship 10 years ago to introduce young women to opportunities in the commercial real estate industry,” Tortorici said. “The hands-on approach allows them to learn about various real estate assets, discover property valuation methods and understand how the governmental regulatory system shapes both private and public policy within the market.”

Tortorici also hosted a “lunch-and-learn” session with the interns and special guest Danielle Axelrod, of DAxCO, whose company represents property owners. Ariel team members participating in the luncheon with Tortorici included Courtney, Gail Donovan, senior director of communications, and Remi Mandell, director - research and sales. The professionals spoke about their career paths, responsibilities in their current roles and their experience as women in the real estate industry.

For the past several years, the New York City multifamily housing market has been defined by disruption. The combined impact of the HSTPA rent laws and a sharply higher interest rate environment has fundamentally reduced
