According to Alfa Development, Village Green, the first building in its growing Green Collection of properties, located at 311 East 11th St., has been awarded LEED GOLD Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is also one of the first residential new developments south of 59th St. to achieve a LEED-NC v2.2 Gold rating.
Certification by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program of the USGBC is based upon the number of points earned across six categories including sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environment quality, and innovation and design process.
"We are proud to have achieved LEED Gold certification at Village Green," said Michael Namer, CEO and founder of Alfa Development. "We set a high standard for ourselves with this project and we couldn't have succeeded without the unwavering support of our dedicated partners who believed in our vision, including Gary Spindler of Park-It Management, our team of energy and environmental consultants from Viridian Energy & Environmental, the Stephen B. Jacobs Group and Sideris Kefalas Engineers."
"Our goal for this building was to create a template for 21st Century, sustainable living as an example for other developers and we plan to continue this model for all buildings in our Green Collection," said Namer. "Sustainable living is not only about incorporating energy-efficient amenities, features, and appliances into homes or reducing harmful greenhouse gases. Our Green Collection is about providing the best possible quality of life for our residents. We look forward to expanding our Green Collection, and by continuing to raise the bar and meet the challenges of sustainable building with each new project."
"Village Green is one of a very few residential buildings in New York City to achieve this prestigious certification," said Natalie Terrill, senior project manager for Viridian Energy & Environmental, a Vidaris Company. "This project presented some unique challenges, and Alfa Development's dedication to sustainability far surpasses the plaque in the building."
Chelsea Green, Alfa Development's second building in its Green Collection located at 151 West 21st St., is on track to be LEED Version 3 Gold-certified and is nearly sold out from floor plans alone. Another Green Collection project is currently planned at 245 West 14th St.
On January 10th Alfa Development hosted partners, friends and residents at Village Green, their eco-luxury condominium located at 311 East 11th St., in celebration of the building's LEED GOLD certification. Guests gathered in the building's Wellness Center, an amenity space catering to residents' mind, body and spirit, where Name presented the LEED GOLD plaque from the USGBC. The evening also featured a special wine tasting with restaurateur Alison Price Becker and sommelier Alessandra Rotondi of Alison Eighteen, the Flatiron restaurant owned by Namer.
