Architecture firm, Ismael Leyva Architects, received an award of merit from the Society of American Registered Architects, New York (SARANY) for their residential high-rise Icon. The SARANY 2013 Design Awards were presented and celebrated on June 25th at Battery Gardens.

Located at 785 Eighth Ave. at the border of Hell's Kitchen and the Theater District, Icon is a 43-story, 122 unit residential building with studio, one and two bedroom rental apartments, offering a lifestyle experience in the rental market and views of the Hudson River, Midtown and downtown Manhattan.
An aspect of the reflective blue-tinted glass Icon are the cascading balconies which face 8th Ave. and climb from the 9th floor to the 43rd floor penthouse giving the building a dynamic appearance.
Featured in The Skyscraper Museum's "Vertical Cities: Hong Kong | New York" for being one of the most slender structures in the world, the building was designed with 24 ft. of frontage, rising 43 stories and with a 15:1 slenderness ratio. "I wanted to capture the vibrant atmosphere of the surrounding area by designing the Icon to be a dynamic addition to the community," said Leyva.
