2022 Year in Review: Dominic Paparo, EW Howell Construction Group

Dominic Paparo
Vice President
EW Howell Construction Group

What person, project, transaction or market trend had the greatest impact on your industry this year?

Inflation and supply chain issues have had the greatest impact on the construction industry in 2022. Successful bids earlier this year proved to be very challenging to purchase in this market. Specifically, the high gas prices earlier in 2022 impacted all construction trades and caused volatility in the materials market. This challenge continues towards the end of 2022, but the impact seems to be flattening. We still project a significant level of escalation over 2023 and into 2024.

What was your greatest professional accomplishment or most notable project, deal, or transaction in 2022?

Our most notable project start in 2022, is the Central Park Harlem Meer Center, our third project for the Central Park Conservancy. The new 33,600 s/f facility including a pool and rink, will bring year-round recreation, as well as integrate into the surrounding landscape and restore lost pedestrian connections.  It is the most significant and complex project ever undertaken by the Conservancy.
