2026 Women in Construction: Bryanna Fernandez, SPECTOR companies

Bryanna Fernandez

SPECTOR companies

What do you wish more women knew about the opportunities available in the construction industry today? As a proud Dominican Latina, I want more young women, especially women of color, to know that there is absolutely space for us to thrive in architecture and construction. Even when we don’t see many people who look like us at first, we belong here. This industry needs our voices in design, planning, and leadership. Our cultural perspective and creativity are strengths, not extras, and when paired with our technical skills, they create powerful opportunities for meaningful long-term careers.

What is one piece of advice or perspective you would share with women beginning their careers in the construction industry? My advice is to be patient with yourself and persistent with your goals. The path can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re young, studying for exams, and still finding your voice.

Ask questions, seek mentors, and don’t shrink yourself to fit the room. You belong here. Confidence grows with experience, and showing up consistently will open doors you didn’t expect.

Share one fun or unexpected detail about yourself that colleagues might not know. Fun fact: I drive a manual, defying the odds as a female, one gear and one tricky design challenge at a time!
