2026 Ones to Watch - Industry Leaders: Niki Marcano, Holt Construction Corp.

Niki Marcano
Director of Contracts Management
Holt Construction Corp.

“Starting as a contracts manager and now serving as director of contracts management, Niki Marcano has been a key leader at Holt Construction for over five years. With more than 20 years of industry experience, she brings deep expertise in construction contracts, guiding internal teams and collaborating with trade partners to build strong, successful project partnerships.”

What is one major challenge you’ve overcome as a leader, and what did it teach you?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve had to overcome has been establishing authority and trust in high-stakes environments where I’m expected to lead negotiations and protect the organization’s interests – often under pressure and strict deadlines. That experience has taught me the importance of preparation, confidence and clear communication. I’ve learned that credibility isn’t just given – it’s built through consistency, deep knowledge of the contract, and the ability to stay composed and solutions-oriented, even in difficult conversations.

How do you inspire, motivate, or mentor others within your organization?

Contract administration, prequalification, risk, and claims management are best understood when everyone understands that our work protects the organization from risk, enables partnerships and revenue, and supports long-term corporate strategy. I encourage decision-making and trust team members to make recommendations, building ownership and engagement. Mistakes are treated as learning opportunities, proactive problem-solving is valued, and accountability is shared.

Who has had the greatest impact on your career or leadership journey?

My mother, a NYPD lieutenant, and Catholic upbringing shaped my values of accountability, integrity, compliance and service.
