What person, project, transaction, or market trend had the greatest impact on your industry this year? Decarbonization, electrification, and Local Law 97 (LL97) significantly shaped our industry. The increased focus on the energy transition in built environment in NYC underscored the urgent need for building-level efficiency, including getting residents on board. These technological and regulatory trends are reshaping operations, including greater ability to participate in revenue-generating demand response programs for buildings and their residents/tenants.

What emerging trends will drive investment and development in 2024? In 2024, investment and development will be driven by the surge in smart thermostats due to their availability, low cost, and incentives. Enterprise load control for energy and carbon reduction, along with similar trends in electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, will offer lucrative opportunities. Smart appliances, forming a smart home ecosystem, will further propel the trifecta of decarbonization, electrification, and energy efficiency.
