2023 Women in CRE: Khanna Parente, Shawmut Design and Construction

Khanna Parente
Project Manager
Shawmut Design and Construction

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? I’m most proud of St. John’s University’s St. Vincent Health Sciences Center – a 70,000 s/f, three-story building that will serve as the new home for existing and future health sciences programs on the university’s Queens, NY, campus. I recently assumed the role of lead project manager, and when complete, this LEED Silver-certified building, will include patient simulation facilities, laboratories, classrooms, gathering spaces, offices, an outdoor terrace, geothermal heat pumps, and rooftop solar panels.

Who inspires you most? What qualities do they possess that inspire you? I am inspired by individuals who not only overcome adversity but also build resilience and strength through it.

Why should this nominee be recognized in our Women in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight? “Khanna’s strengths lie in her ability to foster a collaborative work environment in which everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the best possible outcome for the project. It’s this mindset that has enabled Khanna to successfully manage large, complex projects while seamlessly earning the respect from all stakeholders.” - Charlie Avolio, Head of Major Projects, NY metro region at Shawmut.

What are the most important factors women in your industry should consider when choosing a firm to build their career with? Search for a company that has a diverse project portfolio and leadership that invests in the development and growth of its people.
