2019 Women in Real Estate: Lisa Radetsky, Phillips Nizer LLP

Company Name: Phillips Nizer LLP

What is your favorite motivational quote?
“The most effective way to do it, is to do it” ~ Amelia Earhart.  As an aviation pioneer, Amelia Earhart pursued her dream in spite of the challenges she faced as a woman. Today, women who work in commercial real estate also face similar challenges. It also reflects my philosophy of life because it would be overwhelming to think about everything that I need to accomplish each day. Instead, I wake up in the morning and tackle the challenges of the day–whether it’s work, home, or family, I don’t overthink it–I just get it done.

What books, blogs, podcasts, resources or influencers would you recommend to women?
I would encourage women to read as much as they are able – there is no substitute for being well informed about both your area of expertise, politics, social trends and the economy. I read everything–Real Estate 360, The New York Real Estate Journal, The Real Deal, the New York Times Real Estate section, the Wall Street Journal–basically, anything I can get my hands on (or comes into my inbox), including non-real estate-specific publications. I subscribe to a number of real estate-related digests, which provide a daily dose of information, particularly at the local and regional level.

What recent project or transaction are you most proud of?
A significant portion of my practice involves developments that generally take 3-5 years from the acquisition of the property until the completion of the building, so reaching a significant milestone is a huge accomplishment. This year, I completed the offering plan for a development that I have worked on since its inception. I represented my client in the acquisition of the property and subsequent purchase of the development rights, which included the right to cantilever over the adjacent building. The building will include 71 residences, with amenities and a commercial unit and sales have commenced.
