Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why?

Working with and being trained by some of the brightest and most experienced people in the real estate accounting industry over the course of 15 years has been the strongest influence on my career. I have been able to work on some extremely challenging transactions, like 1031 exchanges and GAAP audits requiring fair value assessments of mezzanine loans, foreclosure acquisitions and repurchase financing. I love that the industry has its small family operations that invest locally as well as the large multi million dollar entities, investing across the country and in some cases internationally.  I also love that I am able to work remotely on all of my Real Estate clients, enabling me to work anywhere at anytime. In many situations, Real estate clients don’t have their own in-house accountants, we are their accounting department. So having access to their systems online gives me the flexibility to work remotely and makes my job much more efficient.

What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you?

A time management strategy that is most effective for me is actually utilizing a combination of strategies:

• Prioritizing things to do on a daily list;

• Including everything in my outlook calendar (including personal items so I can balance my career and my family);

• Keeping in constant communication with colleagues working on my accounts so no time is wasted or questions go unanswered;

• Keep in constant communication with my clients; and

• Keep everything flowing.
