01-15-2015 - REBNY to honor its president, Spinola, at 119th Annual Banquet, amoung others

According to Real Estate Board of New York's (REBNY) chairman Rob Speyer, the organization plans to honor Steven Spinola, REBNY's president of nearly thirty years, with The Harry B. Helmsley Distinguished New Yorker Award at the industry's most celebrated event of the year, the 119th Annual Banquet, which will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the New York Hilton Hotel. Spinola is the longest-serving REBNY president, presiding over the organization's growth from 4,000 members in 1986 to more than 16,000 members today. He is widely recognized as the most influential and well-informed advocate and champion for the New York City real estate industry. Spinola recently announced plans to retire at the end of 2015. Five other top industry leaders will also be honored for their outstanding accomplishments that have made a lasting impact on New York City's vibrant real estate market. These highly successful professionals are noted for their business acumen and talent, which has helped them to improve their communities and uplift their fellow citizens through philanthropic and humanitarian service. "We are enormously proud to honor our dear friend Steven Spinola for all the spectacular work he does for our industry. For nearly three decades, through good times and bad, Steve's professionalism, thoughtful advocacy, and generosity of spirit has inspired our community," said Speyer. This year's honorees are: * Steven Spinola, president of REBNY, who will receive The Harry B. Helmsley Distinguished New Yorker Award, which is presented to an industry member for invaluable contributions to New York's civic welfare and to the real estate community. * William Rudin, CEO & vice chairman of Rudin Management Company, Inc., who will receive The Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate Award, which is presented each year to a REBNY member for a lifetime of exceptional accomplishment in the profession and dedication to leadership in New York real estate. * Barbara Fox, president, Fox Residential Group, Inc., who will receive The Kenneth R. Gerrety Humanitarian Award, which recognizes meritorious service to the community by a REBNY member. * Peter Hauspurg, chairman & CEO of Eastern Consolidated, who will receive The Louis Smadbeck Broker Recognition Award, which honors an executive who exemplifies the characteristics of a successful commercial broker. * Daniel Kindbergh, senior vice president, operations, U.S. Office Division, Brookfield Property Partners, who will receive The George M. Brooker Management Executive of the Year Award, which recognizes individuals of superior accomplishment in the commercial management industry based on outstanding professionalism, civic achievement, and contributions to the real estate industry. * Glen Weiss, executive vice president, director of leasing, Vornado Realty Trust, who will receive the Young Real Estate Man of the Year Award, selected by the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association of New York on the basis of integrity, professionalism and personal ethics. The evening will also include a video component that asks industry experts about their views on issues that are crucial to New York City's real estate market today.
