YM/WREA's Educational Programming promotes careers in real estate

The Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association (YM/WREA) is planning another year of educational programming to offer aspiring professionals first-hand experience about the business. "For years, YM/WREA has served as a resource to institutions of higher learning to provide a greater understanding and knowledge of the real estate industry," said Andrew Lazarus, who serves on YM/WREA's board this year. "This year we are continuing the tradition of extending invitations throughout the year to a select number of college students to attend YM/WREA luncheons, which provide the students with an opportunity to hear from leaders in the real estate industry and to interact with the YM/WREA membership," said Lazarus. In the fall, YM/WREA will again award a financial scholarship to a college student that is enrolled in NYU, Baruch or Columbia's real estate program and will also host a "mentor for the day" event, which pairs college students with YM/WREA members. "Last year's mentor for the day program had strong participation and was well received. The day began with an update on the state of the commercial real estate market hosted by Cushman & Wakefield and, later in the day, included a presentation by Silverstein Properties on the development sites at The World Trade Center," said Lazarus. YM/WREA's calendar for the year ahead includes a large variety of philanthropic and social events, in addition to this added focus on mentoring aspiring real estate professionals. Established in 1948 with a membership totaling approximately 430, Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association promotes greater understanding and knowledge of the real estate industry among its constituents through its monthly luncheons and wide variety of philanthropic activities including New York Cares, City Harvest, Feed the Less Fortunate program during Thanksgiving in coordination with the charitable group RiverFund NY, Central Park Clean-Up Day, an Annual Blood Drive, among others, in addition to many social functions. ###
