Wenz of H2M educates schools on groundwater

Holzmacher, McLendon & Murrel, P.C. (H2M) has been helping make Geology fun for elementary school kids and educating the public on the importance of groundwater protection. The fourth grade classes at Abbey Lane School had the pleasure of listening and learning from a real life geologist. In connection with the Long Island Groundwater Research Institute (LIGRI), Kenneth Wenz, Jr., C.P.G., of H2M, spoke to the children about the geology and landforms of Long Island, groundwater and the water cycle, and the importance of groundwater protection. The children learned a lot of valuable information and viewed a 3-dimensional model of the L.I. groundwater system, which shows how groundwater travels within the aquifers of L.I. The presentation works on many different levels and has been presented to both adults and children. This same seminar was presented at the Commack, Manhasset, Levittown and Bayville schools as well as environmental fairs in Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington. One of the goals of the presentation is to raise awareness about groundwater issues and to educate the community on the region's most pressing groundwater problems.
