The Silhouette earns LEED Platinum certification from USGBC

The Silhouette, a new condominium in Greenwood Heights, has earned LEED Platinum certification through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), marking it as one of the first LEED-Platinum certified condominiums in the borough and one of New York's first residential low-rises with this designation. The condominium includes four homes designed for the highest level of style and efficiency. The project cost was undisclosed. "The dedication paid to the finishes and materials used in these upscale homes are nothing short of exquisite," said David Maundrell, president and founder of aptsandlofts.com, exclusive sales and marketing agent for The Silhouette. "From the refined finishes and thoughtfully planned, oversized layouts to the long-term savings on energy costs and eco-friendly design elements, The Silhouette is one-of-a-kind for the value and higher quality of life it presents buyers." Developed in partnership by Summit Strategic Advisory, GreenEnvy Development, Giancola Contracting and Ridge Iron Works, The Silhouette also complies with Energy Star's rating requirements to create a home that will use 60% less energy than comparable conventionally designed buildings. Sustainable features at The Silhouette include a green rooftop with solar panels that recapture energy for the building's heat and hot water systems; a roof garden that provides natural insulation; a state-of-the-art exterior with exceptional thermal, moisture and noise barrier capabilities; and triple glazed, Low-E coated and Argon-filled windows for superior heat and noise insulation. The Silhouette is constructed of 97.5% recycled steel and concrete, and is further designed to take advantage of natural resources with a white brick southern façade that helps regulate building temperature, energy demands, and a storm water recapture system for irrigation. "Earning LEED-Platinum certification from the USGBC at a new low-rise condominium validates all the hard work, insightful design and construction methods that our development team demonstrated over the last 15 months," said Robert Roth, of GreenEnvy Development. "We look forward to sharing our work with potential homebuyers and the real estate community in a cooperative spirit so that our region's housing stock might embrace the green building movement on a broader basis." Homes at The Silhouette are as stylish as they are efficient. All homes boast large private outdoor space, reclaimed white oak barnwood flooring throughout, walk-in closets or dressing rooms and washers and dryers. Modern kitchens include Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood cabinets, sleek Technistone countertops and backsplash, Spanish charcoal ceramic floor tiles and a high-performance suite of stainless Energy Star-rated appliances including Bosch dishwashers and ovens, Thermador cooktops and Liebherr refrigerators. Bathrooms feature air jet Jacuzzis in master baths, glass-enclosed showers, Hans-Grohe Axor low-flow fixtures, dual flush toilets and custom vanities and cabinetry made of FSC-certified wood with Technistone counters.
