Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency: Incentivizing Suffolk County's innovation economy
Whether you are the founder of a new start-up or a leader of an established company, the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is here to show you all that Suffolk County has to offer.
For one, did you know that Suffolk County has the second largest industrial park in the entire country? Covering 1,400 acres, the Hauppauge Industrial Park has 1,300 businesses employing some 55,000 employees. These are businesses - small and large - on the cutting edge of high-tech, manufacturing, biomedical and pharmaceuticals. Clusters are blossoming, and that's hardly by accident given the world-renowned research and education facilities accessible to Suffolk's businesses: Brookhaven National Laboratory, Stony Brook University, Farmingdale State College and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, just to name a few.
Like the Hauppauge Industrial Park, the Route 110 Corridor also has its fingertips at the pulse of the innovation economy. Nearly one million s/f of office space and 120,000 employees are making strides along this 12-mile stretch of road. Bucking national trends, more than 15,000 of those jobs were created during the worst recession in decades. With major business headquarters like Canon USA and Marchon Eyewear anchoring the corridor, the area has seen consistent growth in the scientific & tech services, manufacturing and financing industries.
More than just business clusters and research facilities, the quality of life enjoyed throughout Suffolk is second to none. With nearly 1,000 miles of shoreline, 50,000 acres of parkland, our world famous wine country (and thriving microbreweries) and nationally ranked golf courses, Suffolk really does have it all.
And right at the intersection of these growing industry clusters, research institutions and so much more is the Suffolk County IDA. Along with our New York State and utility partners, the IDA aggressively works to help businesses expand in, and move to, the county, creating high-quality jobs for our residents.
Besides traditional tax incentives (property tax abatements, sales tax exemptions and mortgage recording tax exemptions) the IDA recently launched the BOOST Program, catering to start-ups in the information technology, life and bio-sciences, green technology and energy sectors. We know what it entails to launch a business, so we're doing everything possible to meet your needs and help you reach beyond your goals for growth.
So see for yourself what Suffolk can offer your business and give the Suffolk Industrial Development Agency a call. We're eager to work on your behalf to make sure an expansion in, or move to, Suffolk is the ideal solution for your business.
Anthony Catapano is the executive director of the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency, Hauppauge, N.Y.
