Stark joins Francis Cauffman as principal

According to Francis Cauffman, the award-winning architecture firm, Stanley Stark, FAIA, NCARB, LEED AP, has been appointed to the position of principal, science and technology. Stark is an award-winning architect with over 40 years of experience in the planning and design of science, technology, and research and development facilities for prominent public and private clients in the bio-pharmaceuticals, higher education, and healthcare industries. Francis Cauffman is a national practice of 120 people with offices in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington. "Stanley is a nationally respected expert who will allow Francis Cauffman to broaden the scope and scale of its science and technology projects," said Jim Crispino, President of Francis Cauffman. "We are pleased to welcome him to our senior leadership team, where he will continue to develop our lasting relationships with academic and biotech clients." Stark's portfolio includes a major translational research facility at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada's leading pediatric care hospital; the Research & Development Headquarters for Avon Products in Suffern, NY; the Drug Discovery Facility for Schering-Plough Research Institute in Kenilworth, NJ; and a Biological Safety Lab for Merck & Co., Inc., in West Point, PA. After beginning his career at Westermann-Miller, Stark moved to HLW International, where he spent 29 years and was Director of Research and Development. Before joining Francis Cauffman, Stark was Director of Strategic Planning at Vanguard Construction and Development, where he gained valuable insight into the crucial relationships between architects and contractors. Stark has been published in Laboratory Design, Architectural Technology, and Pharmaceutical Engineering, among others. He is the author of Planning Academic Research Facilities: A Guidebook, editor of Research Facilities of the Future for the New York Academy of Sciences, and co-author and co-illustrator of Building Security: Handbook for Architectural Design. Formerly the chair of the Oculus Committee, Stark continues as book editor. Some of Stark's theater drawings are in the collection of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. In 2005, Stark was selected as a Fellow by the American Institute of Architects, and in 2010, he received the President's Award from the organization's New York State component. He sits on the board of the Center for Architecture Foundation and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and Manufacturers. He frequently presents at Tradeline, Lab Design, and ISPE. Stark received a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt and a MS in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University. He is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is LEED AP certified.
