SL Green Realty Corp.'s 100 Park Ave., the 825,815 s/f "modern classic" situated in the Midtown area, has been awarded a LEED-EB Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
As one of the city's first buildings to receive a LEED-EB Silver certification in 2009, 100 Park has continually improved its environmental and energy efficiency standards to re-certify the property, and now joins a group of properties as only one of 26 buildings in the city to achieve a gold-level designation.
"As part of SL Green's forward-looking environmental program, we recognize the importance of leading by example, offering a best-in-class experience for our tenants," said Steven Durels, SL Green executive vice president, director of leasing and real property. "100 Park Ave.'s ascension to a LEED-EB gold designation demonstrates our ongoing, total commitment to sustainability."
As part of its re-certification process, which is required every five years within LEED's EB category, 100 Park Ave. improved efficiency and environmental standards, achieving recycling rates of 77%, while water consumption was reduced by an additional 10%.
Jay Black, SL Green's director of sustainability, said, "These environmental upgrades combined with an existing green roof, and receipt of the US EPA Energy Star Label from 2010 through 2014, positioned 100 Park to receive this noteworthy, sought-after gold designation."
This represents SL Green's second LEED certification this year, the first being 180 Maiden Ln.; it is the fourth property in SL Green's portfolio to receive this designation, the others are: 360 Hamilton in White Plains, and 500 West Putnam Ave. in Greenwich, Conn. To date, more than 2.4 million s/f of SL Green's properties have received a LEED certification, and 11.8 million s/f have received the US EPA Energy Star Label.
